Somerleyton Hall
and Gardens

Somerleyton required a fully responsive website to promote this magnificent and unique stately home in the wilds of East Anglia and integrate with a third party online booking engine for holiday reservations.

The challenge was to unify many disparate arms of the business into one elegant website that was easy to navigate and conveyed a sense of the Somerleyton brand: relaxed and modern yet firmly rooted in a personal family history.

Our Approach

During early planning sessions we began by identifying the many different audiences for the website - day visitors, holiday-makers, restaurant-goers, brides-to-be, watersports enthusiasts and others - and then assembled the content into channels that would accommodate these different user groups effectively.

The brief was to deliver a photography-led experience with succint use of text and elegant typography

Creatively the brief was to deliver a photography-led experience with succint use of text and elegant typography. To help achieve this we used a mobile-first approach, with compact navigation to help keep pages clean and simple in their design.

Art direction included commissioning woodcut-style iconography to establish a common visual language to distinguish the different site areas, as well as illustrated maps to allow visitors to explore the highlights of the estate and lake-side attractions.

On this project Superwire rose to the design challenge of assimilating all the aspects of life at Somerleyton and finding a way to present them all online in a cohesive way. Their thoroughness and attention to detail was impressive throughout.
